Verulamians 29 - Beaconsfield 34
Another big loss for a struggling Vees who have been searching for that
elusive first win. Despite the score line, Vees competed for long
periods of the game and came close to scoring on four occasions from
driving mauls. However it was the clinical execution of opportunites
that seperated the two sides. Whereas V's spilled ball at the back of
mauls, UCS OB's handling in open play was exemplary with their ex-Otago
scrumhalf running the show and the back three picking superb running
lines to pick up a hatful of tries. Despite the loss Vees left the
pitch heads held high, having blooded another new player Andy Evans, who
is showing a lot of promise at 10. Special mention also goes to number 8
Brian Molyneux who had a tireless game with ball in hand and tackling
around the park. Vees then went on to a great performance off the field with a club night out in St.Albans. The quiet pubs along Fishpool Street were graced with thirty rugby players helping to celebrate club captain Trevor Munien's birthday! Just goes to show club spirit is more than just the results on the field.
Cheers
Trevor
